We live in a world that is go, go, GO! This frenetic pace keeps our brains operating mostly in a Beta wave state. Beta waves look very short and choppy. Low amplitude beta waves are often associated with active, busy, or anxious thinking and active concentration. With this level of activity, the brain has less of a chance to go into a slower Alpha wave (meditation) or Theta wave state (dreams/creation).
Think about choosing a meditation practice for purely physical health reasons. Once you begin, you may find it difficult to quiet or calm the "monkey mind" - the incessant chatterbox that lives inside our heads.
What I find that greatly helps me to meditate (keep in mind that I am Gemini Ascendent, Gemini Moon and Mercury in Gemini!) is using tuning forks! In fact, it is the only things that helps me to be able to meditate! I listen to the tones first and my mind instantly relaxes. I place them on specific acupuncture points and my body gets fortified and begins to zing! Now the "monkey mind" wants to follow the vibrations and sensations and voila!
