helping the people of thame, solokhumbu, everest region nepal
As many of you may know, my partner is a Sherpa from Nepal and his name is Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa. Thame is his village where he grew up and where his family currently lives. I was fortunate to travel to Nepal and visit Thame in 2009. It is a beautiful village where many Everest climbing Sherpas are from.
The village once known as a thriving place as seen above is no more. Only one house stands after the devastating 7.8 earthquake that happened on April 25, 2015. Everyone in the village including Lhakpa's mother, brother and his wife and five children are sleeping outside. Thame is 12,533 feet in elevation (3820 meters) and this time of year is very cold in the Everest region. The photos below were sent to Lhakpa on 4/28/15 from family members in Thame.
The world is responding to help Nepal but most of the aid is centered in the city of Kathmandu and surrounding valley. Many of the outlying and more remote villages will not receive the help they need in time. Lhakpa and I are asking for your help to raise funds to send directly to families in Thame. American dollars can go so far in Nepal as they are converted into rupees. With your donation, Lhakpa and I can let you know who, when and how your generosity helped the survival needs of his family and friends.
